Often the most damaging effects to organisms are cumulative ones which occur over time from repeated traumas or wasting disease, and ones wherein bleeding, scar tissue, and bruising my be in the deep tissue of the body and not visible on the skin.  So it is true of our bodies, so it is also true in the slow violence ravaging the tissue and fabric of our planet, our cultures, our fellow organisms, and our people.
